“FOREVER YOUNG”: Chest Fever’s Latest Single from The 21st Century Last Waltz – Live at Massey Hall

Today, Chest Fever officially releases “Forever Young,” the latest single from their upcoming album The 21st Century LAST WALTZ – Live At Massey Hall. The single comes with a corresponding live music video available on Youtube. Recorded during the band’s landmark performance at Toronto’s legendary Massey Hall on November 18, 2023, the single continues the band’s weekly rollout of songs and videos leading up to the full album’s release on September 18, 2026.

Written by Bob Dylan, “Forever Young” carries a particularly deep connection to The Last Waltz. Dylan and The Band originally recorded the song together for Planet Waves, and Dylan later joined The Band to perform it at their legendary 1976 farewell concert. Chest Fever’s rendition brings together an eclectic ensemble of musicians, including Don Stevenson of Moby Grape, Canadian singer-songwriter Jerry Leger, Scarlet Rivera, who is renowned for her work with Bob Dylan on Desire and the Rolling Thunder Revue, Canadian singer-songwriter Rebekah Hawker, and indie-folk trio The Pairs.

For Hawker, the recording is ultimately about recreating the communal feeling of being inside Massey Hall on that unforgettable night: “I hope people hear this recording and feel like they're back in that room—that incredible energy and connection between the stage and the audience [...] Massey Hall has a way of making thousands of people feel like they're all part of the same conversation, singing these songs together.” As well as being a fan favorite, that sense of shared experience is central to the performance, and to the significance of Massey Hall itself.

Hawker also joined The Pairs to create the song’s layered backing vocals. While the singers drew inspiration from the original arrangements, they approached the harmonies as a starting point rather than a strict framework. The background vocals thus add a unique and ethereal touch to Dylan and The Band’s version, bringing a new kind of texture and depth to the original.

However, Stevenson and Leger are the main vocalists on the song, taking turns singing the verses before joining together on the chorus. The interplay becomes a fitting reflection of the song’s enduring reach; the two artists come from different generations and countries, but are united under the shared love of the music.

“Forever Young” is available for streaming on all major platforms. The full album, The 21st Century LAST WALTZ – Live At Massey Hall, will be available for streaming on September 18, 2026.
