“REMEDY”: Chest Fever’s Final Single From The 21st Century Last Waltz – Live at Massey Hall OUT NOW

Today, Chest Fever officially releases “Remedy” ft. Colin Linden and Jerome Levon Avis, the final single from their upcoming album The 21st Century LAST WALTZ – Live At Massey Hall. The single comes with a corresponding live music video available on Youtube. Recorded during the band's landmark performance at Toronto's legendary Massey Hall on November 18, 2023, the release continues the band's weekly rollout of singles and videos leading up to the full album's release on September 18, 2026. 

“Remedy” comes from a later chapter in The Band’s story, originally on their 1993 album Jericho, the first collection of new songs following the original lineup’s 1976 farewell show. Written by guitarist Jim Weider and bassist Colin Linden, the song proved that The Band’s signature roots-rock sound could carry forward into a new era. “Remedy” became one of the standout tracks from Jericho, and even reached No. 14 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.

For Chest Fever’s Massey Hall performance, Linden returns to the song he co-wrote, joined by Jerome Levon Avis, drummer and son of Bill Avis, The Band’s longtime road manager since The Hawks era. Both musicians carry deep connections to The Band’s extended musical family; Linden’s relationship with The Band stretches back decades, working alongside Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, and Levon Helm as well as forming a lasting partnership with Jim Weider and Richard Bell, two other key figures in The Band’s circle. “The Band were always my favorite,” Linden recalls. “They combined elements of blues, country music, folk music, rock and roll into a totally unique sound, and the power of their music continues to grow—it was built on strong foundations.”

Reflecting on his time on stage, Linden particularly mentions Jerome Levon Avis as a meaningful part of the story. He draws a direct line between his onstage presence and the welcoming spirit embodied by his father and Helm: “Jerome and his folks are a huge part of The Band family,” Linden says. “And like Bill Avis, Jerome’s dad, and Levon, his namesake, he just makes you feel at home. And that’s what playing with Jerome is like… absolutely comfortable and welcome.”

Of course, performing his own song, “Remedy,” at Massey Hall was an especially significant moment: “From the time I was a little kid, Massey Hall was one of the places I most wanted to play,” he says. “And I didn’t get to until I was 27 years old. And it seemed like I would never get there before that! So every time I get to play there, it feels like a blessing.”

The performance also reflects what continues to draw musicians and audiences to The Band’s music decades after The Last Waltz. For Linden, its enduring power lies not only in the songs themselves, but in the sense of community they create between generations. “It is so heartwarming to see a younger generation experience this music and the fellowship that it brings with it,” Linden says. “The songs are true. They have such imagination. They prove the heart. They are not judgmental. They don’t hurt people. What’s not to love?”

As the final single ahead of the album’s release, “Remedy” brings The 21st Century LAST WALTZ – Live At Massey Hall full circle, connecting The Band’s musical legacy with a new generation of performers and listeners. With its combination of longtime collaborators and younger musicians carrying the tradition forward, the concert embodies Chest Fever’s ultimate mission: to keep the spirit of the music alive for years to come.
