A NEW POETRY ALBUM AND CHAPBOOK FROM NOAH C. LEKAS

After seven years, poet and songwriter Noah C. Lekas returns with Flowers of Perennial Dissent, a six-part spoken-word album and companion chapbook about illness, recovery, ego death, mysticism, and rebuilding a life when the structures that once defined it have fallen away.

The project grew from notes Lekas kept during six supervised psychedelic therapy sessions while recovering from a prolonged and nearly fatal illness. Rather than presenting a traditional memoir or poetry collection, he shaped those experiences into a connected narrative that moves through collapse, revelation, uncertainty, and the slow work of finding meaning again.

Where Lekas’ acclaimed debut collection, Saturday Night Sage, captured blue-collar America through a series of poetic vignettes, Flowers of Perennial Dissent follows one continuous inward journey. Drawing from Beat literature, Gonzo journalism, psychedelic folk, and spoken-word traditions, the project asks what it means to keep moving forward without pretending that life follows a clean or predictable path.

The album features original musical collaborations with:

• Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars and The Black Crowes
• Charlie Parr
• Anthony Pirog of The Messthetics
• Ethan Miller of Comets On Fire and Howlin’ Rain
• James Toth of Wooden Wand

Each musician created an original soundscape from a brief description of the poem rather than the finished text. Lekas then allowed the music to shape the final writing and performance, giving each piece its own musical world while preserving the larger narrative of the album.

The result is a raw and immersive poetry record built from voice, atmosphere, distortion, folk music, and lived experience.

The Album and Chapbook

The album and chapbook are designed as companion pieces.

The vinyl and CD editions present six spoken-word performances surrounded by original music from Lekas’ collaborators. The limited-edition chapbook presents the poems on the page, allowing readers to experience the language as a companion to the recordings.

Together, they offer two distinct ways into the same story: one through voice and sound, the other through the written word.
